3 Key Things To Avoid During Spiritual Awakening
If there is one thing that is definitely lacking in the content I see on spiritual awakening, it’s what to avoid. I’ve seen people transform their entire awakening simply by implementing the strategies of avoiding things that are DETRIMENTAL to your awakening experience.
Unfortunately, it is little known information, and there is truly nothing I’ve found that can improve the experience of your awakening as much as I’ve found avoiding these key things can. How do I know? Because I learned the HARD way. I don’t want you to go through that, because its totally unnecessary, so I hope that this article will explain all that you need to know.
DON’T Do THIS…
You see, when I went through my emergence (a spiritual awakening that hits crisis level) I had such a desire to keep moving through, that I began healing myself ALL THE TIME. Iām an intuitive healer, so I would spend large parts of the day healing whatever emotional triggers had come up. This meant I spent a lot of time doing energy work, reflecting on my feelings and being in altered psychic states. Then in the evenings I would either do more healing on myself or I would go into meditative states leading to spiritual visions or astral travel that sometimes spanned over two hours. But things were continuing to get worse. I was healing more than I ever had, but the emotions just kept coming up so thick and fast and overwhelmingly that I couldnāt get a handle on it at all. It was completely out of control. This made me want to spend more time in vision communicating with my guides, asking for more information, and begging to be led in the right direction. I used crystals and oils and incense to ground me, but they either overpowered me or did nothing at all!
The emotional triggering had already taken up my whole day, now it was seeping into night mares or nightly anxiety which stopped me from sleeping. To top it off, I was beginning to have psychic sensations in inappropriate situations. For example, Iād go for a massage to chill out and realize that someone was talking to me. Or if I tried to ignore spiritual contact, Iād begin to see faces emerge during social situations or hear chatter in my head. Now, nightly Iād be awoken by spirit talking to me, or Iād toss and turn seeing symbols I didnāt understand or sensing presences in my bedroom. It was just too much. I was completely and utterly exhausted (and kinda terrified) in every sense of the word.
The A-Ha Moment!
I realize now that I was unintentionally ungrounding myself. Doing energy healing work was super charging my energy and opening me up even more ā so more powerful emotion from deeper recesses was being purged to the surface at an even greater speed. Without grounding in place to level it out, it all kind of spilled up to the top in one big soupy mess. I didnāt know where to start. Being in a meditative state for long periods of time was actually ENCOURAGING the kundalini up my spine even faster. So it would hit against more blocks, which raised more emotional issues, which needed more healing, which ungrounded me furtherā¦ and so the cycle continued until spirit broke me out of it.
Much like prevention is better than cure, one of my top grounding recommendations would actually be to prevent ungrounding, rather than cure it later. We are so incredibly charged with energy that it can take quite some time for us to ācome back downā.
The moral of the story is, donāt do things that are going to:Ā
ā¢ Charge your energy
ā¢ Stimulate your kundalini
ā¢ Or alter your energetic or psychic state
Those are the 3 rules ā and to be honest, they may not apply to absolutely everyone here. There may be those of you who can actually use crystals or oils or meditation without becoming too ungrounded, but given that most of us here are in a very delicate state similar to what I was, I say avoid it, at least for now. When you find yourself more grounded, you can carefully test and investigate to see how your energy responds. With that in mind, letās take a look at what to avoid for now (and why).
Key Things To Avoid During Spiritual Awakening
ā¢ Energy healing ā whether you are giving or receiving any form of energy healing, it generally opens you up (both emotionally AND energetically). Avoid intuitive healing, energy healing or modalities and alternative methods (if you have to use anything at all, EFT Tapping is a good choice – don’t worry, I’ll be covering more on EFT later). Doing energy healing at these first two stages will charge your energy, which will open you up further, which will intensify the emotional triggering. The emotions will get WORSE. We want slow and steady, so this is not a good idea.
ā¢ Spiritual practices ā Spiritual practices also tend to charge our energies. Many are very energetically stimulating (even if they feel calming to your body) and a lot of spiritual practices actually ENCOURAGE Kundalini to rise up the spine. This includes things like meditation, yoga, mediumship, intuitive training or purposely instigating astral travel. Be careful too, many well-meaning practitioners or teachers will tell you that they know you will be fine, or that their method is safe. Tread carefully and take responsibility for your own well being. If they havenāt been through it, they likely wonāt realize how incredibly sensitive and explosive our energies can be and could unintentionally make it worse.
ā¢ Things that alter your psychic or energetic state ā Be careful with the likes of incense, essential oils and crystals. These are all wonderful and enjoyable things that I still enjoy now, but many of them (even designed for the purpose of grounding) can be ungrounding. You might also find due to your energetic sensitivity that many items with strong energetic resonance can leave you with a sort of imprint or weird vibe that can be hard to clear.
Please note that I am not advocating that you never use these things ever ā just donāt use them for the purpose of grounding.Ā I still enjoy crystals and meditation and oils, and I can use them now, but if your awakening is particularly difficult, ungrounding, emotional or crazy try avoiding these things for even a few days and check for improvements. I GUARANTEE you will feel better. During days or times when you know you are steady and grounded, you can then test them out and see how you feel in comparison.
So, to sum up: things that charge your energy, stimulate your kundalini or alter your energetic or psychic state will make your spiritual awakening signs or symptoms worse.
Once in that seriously ungrounded state, there is nothing that can ground you as fully as simply avoiding these triggers in the first place. Prevention is definitely better than cure!
But How Can I Ascend Without Them?!
So… then how do we continue ascension without these things? In truth, there is nothing on earth that can physically STOP you from ascending. Avoiding these 3 key things will not stop or delay your ascension in any way – it will only make the process easier, with less difficult symptoms to contend with. However if you want to continue clearing, healing and moving forward, I’d suggest something like EFT tapping as it is grounding and very effective at healing and releasing issues. It will not unground you, and it is entirely safe to do (speaking from experience).

I have the opposite problem. I can’t get ungrounded when I want to. even using really high vibe crystals like moldavite won’t do it. It’s hard to fly when you can’t get off the ground. even reiki energy isn’t enough. I feel the energy flowing out my feet chakras automatically. I probably shouldn’t complain about it but it makes trying to astral project difficult , amongst other things.
Hi Michael, you might find that Spirit is intentionally keeping you grounded for now. Sometimes we move between a reeeally high vibration back down to extremely grounded and almost cut off spiritually or psychically. Rest assured that it will pass – its usually to bring you back to the space that needs clearing in order to allow you to ascend even higher. Its like you need to be grounded to focus on clearing whatever is stopping you from reaching higher realms. Don’t worry, it will likely change soon as your soul will be processing the blocks holding you back.
I have been attempting to raise my vibrations and open my 3rd eye…through meditation and yoga…but I have been seeing weird designs when I lay down to sleep at night, also my digestive system has been disrupted. I have a strong feelings of anxiety, unnecessary sweating…do you have any advice to alleviate these symptoms or is this normal upon spiritual awakening?
Hi Melonie, usually anxiety, sweating and confusing spiritual experiences like that are a sign that we need urgent grounded – we are too open. If you can bring them down to normal levels by avoiding the key things listed above you will find that it comes into balance. You’ll still have psychic awareness, but it will be more manageable. I’d encourage you to do the free course – it will help you learn more. Your third eye, and indeed your vibrations are extremely heightened and opened at the moment, be cautious because purposely raising them could cause spiritual emergence which can be quite dangerous. Rest assured that you are as heightened and opened as you need to be, and that the difficult symptoms will pass and leave the gifts and wisdom instead š

Hi Chris, that is unusual. It could be that a few things were coming up for healing, and thats ok, usually any awareness of energy will dissipate a while afterwards. So happy to find your page and excited to try your course. For six months Its been crazy for me. I opened my new business during this all and have closed for the Winter broke over budget. I’ve been to doctors a few times and it’s just occurred to me my illness is a symptom of energy or I feel I’ve been six from someone else’s energy. I’m very confused and I know I need grounding. I’m a Reiki Master myself and holistic practitioner. My visions have been crazy I pass them off as crazy thoughts but think they may be real. I feel I have no one to talk to about things or they may see me as crazy. Has anyone else experienced sudden pain, head aches chills flu symptoms from no virus but maybe part of this prosses? I finally got rid of this when I used muscle testing technique with lymphatic and vascular holdings.I need to get grounded and fast I’m an emotional wreck.I really need to here about other people’s experiences so I know I’m not crazy. I think I subconsciously fear what’s happening. I smoke,and as funny as this sounds I think I don’t want to give it up because I’m afraid it will awaken my senses more and I don’t like feeling others thoughts and emotions, it hurts me and makes me sad. Any advise is helpul.
Hi Joy, I’m so sorry to hear you’re having such a difficult time, however, it might comfort you to know that I went through this too. Almost all of your challenges can be alleviated by the grounding techniques listed in the course. Usually we get psychic experiences that seem odd or hard to understand, pick up on other peoples ‘stuff’ and physical concerns (flu like symptoms or aches and pains) because we are so ungrounded that our body has no choice but to create physical challenges in order to bring our focus back to the body and therefore ground us. My spiritual awakening journey began in august 2017, Iām still going through it. The first 4 months was intensely insane, with sickness and pain. Now it is much better, it seems I am reliving some many moments as I go from high vibrational level to low vibrational level where Iām revisiting my old self and I hear many thoughts talking in my head. And then the moment comes where everything closes up and I can communicate with the Creator again. Itās happening again this time, where all thoughts are trying to figure out how to solve this āproblemā continuously, that sometimes it feels Iām just an observer or Iām using my thoughts to guide each other. Iāve also been wondering if being exposed to laptop or phone for long hours can cause issues with the third eye – while going thru this journey? Iāve noticed in the past that when I stare too long at the laptop, Iām not connected anymore from within. It is challenging to be socially active as well during these times, as there r painful moments when Iām not connected. Plus, my husband is not even aware of anything that is going on with me.
Thank you for sharing your journey. I can relate to much of it! As a general rule electronics shouldn’t close you down energetically during awakening but that being said, we all have our own blocks within our energy fields so it is possible. I’d take a break from them or limit your time where possible. In time you’ll likely find a balance and be able to use them normally while still feeling connected.

I was warned by spirit that this was going to come..but sheesh…Now I’m going through old relationship issues from past which I know are a reflection of the self..I had no idea I was holding so much locked away. Hi Teri, yes this can be rough, but it is an entirely natural part of awakening. My best advice would be to check out our free course that will teach you to to actively heal and clear these issues AS they come up – which saves you painfully revisiting them over and over. Hi Kelly. I have been super charged energetically since I began mediating a lot, eating light raw food and deep breathing. I also set the intention to “shift into alignment with what my higher self wants for me” and be in “good communication with my spirit guides.
Since then I have been pulled towards shady characters and wanting to “heal” them and even give things away to them like my apartment and DOG
My logical mind does not want to do these things, but my body / intuition feels like this is what the universe wants from me for my highest good – but it’s difficult – I’m not clear headed.
I don’t know what’s real guidance or my ego. Do I need to do these things? I’m afraid if I don’t I will miss out on great opportunity, or the problems will surface again later in life.
And there are also things I WANT to do but my intuition is telling me otherwise.

Hi there, this sounds like old issues coming up to be healed, which usually arise in the form of beliefs. Things such as ‘its not spiritual to have money’ or beliefs that we need to give to others and sacrifice ourselves no matter the cost, or even feelings like we need to save the world – these are examples of old spiritual beliefs that originated in other times which are being called to be cleared here and now, so that we CAN move forward, with all of our needs met, in abundance and joy AND helping others at the same time. The fact that these issues are happening in your life now is likely your souls way of making you aware of them and the complications that energy creates. hello, im having spiritual symptoms like im always feel tired, muscle pain, back pain, warm sensation at my back. A lot of thoughts at my head, about religion, etc. I see 11:11 mostly at clock. Sometimes i dont know what to do, to who i should communicate about this. Because i cant communicate with my spirit guide, i have a lot of weird dream, but i dont know what its mean.
Hi Albert, it sounds like you’re having a bit of a rough time. Its not nice, but it is common in the beginning while we adjust to the energies. Hi Kelly, I was goin thru awakening process 2 months ago. But now all the symptoms have stopped.. so unable to understand whatās goin on ..
Ok, so I believe I was in crisis. I was having precognitive dreams (still do), empathic abilities to the extreme (I still do, just not as āknowingā) but I always become overwhelmed by everyone elseās emotional ānoiseā, I even saw my grandfather clear as day- solid like you or me and I said, oh hey! What are you doing here. I turned away and only then did it hit me, he had passed several years before. When I turned back he was gone. I began sobbing all the time. Really sobbing. The combination of precognitive dreams and empathic abilities caused my longtime bf to āgo for a driveā on Valentineās Day and never call or come back. I felt like I had completely went over the edge and I shit down EVERYTHING. I packed up my crystals, my tarot cards and stuffed them in the furtherest corner I could away from me. I shut down completely to the point where Drs believed I had suffered an emotional breakdown. This was after, when I finally started going out into the world again. I was dxād with agoraphobia, ptsd, severe depression, severe anxiety disorder, bi-polar, etc. I was on medications that made me so sick, sometimes having life threatening adverse effects. They wanted me to even go through ect. Never. This past year has been a real eye opener. I started meditating again after nearly 20 years. Iāve had amazing dreams. Iāve had many revelations, sometimes so quickly Iāve been left feeling off kilter. I am now more accepting and ready. Iām older and no longer scared.
But, I felt like I stopped the awakening process for myself years ago. Which leaves me wondering where exactly do I go in the here and now.
So did I not stop it? Just repress it? Essentially stunting it? Ther only thing Iām NOT embracing is the empathic part. Iām a bit scared to go there again. Last time I would know so many things I could NOT possibly know about, say the person next in my checkout line at the store. It also creates chaos with my then longtime bf. He flipped out and freaked out. I learned to just keep my mouth shut. And Iām always so overwhelmed as it is with others emotional noise. I avoid most places and stay home. Even that is exhausting as there are 7 others in my 3 bedroom, open floor plan house including my narcissistic aging mother and my adult daughter who is following in my motherās footsteps. Being home is exhausting! Forget going in public places. I keep that to a minimum.
So, did I stop my awakening? Or did I not? Sorry this is such a long post. Looking for answers and guidance and not finding any.

Hi Aislyn, First of all I’m sending big hugs your way. It sounds like you’ve been having a seriously rough time. The first thing that I want you to know is that if this is what is going on, your awakening has not stopped at all but instead has kicked into high gear! You’re definitely still awakening at a very fast pace! Everything breaks down and dysfunction and challenges rise to the surface to be realized and healed which can make us feel like its all going wrong and that we’re not moving forward at all, but you ARE. I just realized I may be going through this and I need some support. I started waking up and not being able to go to sleep. Now I cannot sleep at all and I am full of anxiety. My work is suffering and my family for what I am going through. I will stop meditating but I need some medication to help me sleep which I hate taking and makes me feel sick. I could deal with all of this if I could be some sleep. I will try tapping like you suggested. THANK YOU
Hi Bonnie, it sounds like your system has become so ungrounded that it has slipped into the fight or flight response. Its like our bodies realize that we are not fully in them or that we are floating away and kicks in the survival mechanism which creates these dizzy, faint feelings, inability to sleep and a sense of anxiety. It can also make the body ache or break down as your body is doing everything it can to reground you quickly. Its definitely a symptom of awakening but not one that you need to put up with.
