If you’re reading this, you’re likely at that awful stage of awakening that is filled with intense and overwhelming anxiety, fear or panic attacks that absolutely will not ease up no matter what you do…
I know the feeling well – restless and nervous with a knot in your stomach and fluttering panic in your heart that just WONT go away. Your mind repeats cyclical worries that play in a loop that you can’t seem to switch off. The fear can reach a terrifying peak that you are powerless to stop and the anxiety seems to grow larger and more all consuming with every attempt you make to quell it.
Yes, I know anxiety well, and what I can tell you is, that while normal anxiety, fear and panic attacks are already bad enough, the anxiety that often accompanies spiritual awakening is downright horrific. Whats worse is that it doesn’t seem to have any specific cause, and if you can’t find the cause, you can’t get rid of it any time soon – which is even more frightening than the fact you have this panicky anxiety in the first place! Well, that’s what you’d think, and I wouldn’t blame you – I felt the exact same way too, trying everything, only to find that my awakening anxiety didn’t shift, stayed just as bad as before, or in the most intense of instances, got even worse.
Don’t Worry – It CAN Be Changed…
Firstly, let me reassure you by saying, we CAN change this. I want to comfort you by letting you know that this anxiety IS a normal part of awakening (although you DON’T have to put up with it) and while we can’t always get rid of it for good (it serves an important purpose throughout awakening that we can’t always override) you CAN make it much better by following the guidance we’ll be sharing in this article. Symptoms Of Anxiety, Fear & Panic Attacks During Spiritual Awakening
Here is a list of the symptoms of anxiety that we generally suffer, and I list them here mainly because not only are they different from standard anxiety (they include symptoms that the average anxiety sufferer WONT get) but also because you may be experiencing other symptoms that you haven’t realized are born from this anxiety, and it might be helpful, so lets take a look.
- Feeling nervous, restless, unsettled or tense
- A sense of dread, impending danger, or doom
- Increased or irregular heart rate; fluttering, thumping
- Sweating, shaking or feeling weak
- Brain fog and trouble concentrating or thinking clearly
- Butterflies, churning or knots in the stomach (bad gut feeling)
- Feeling light headed or dizzy
- Feeling nauseated
- Pins and needles or tingling
- Flashbacks of previous frightening or traumatic experiences in THIS lifetime
- Flashbacks of frightening or traumatic experiences in PAST lifetimes (this is often more confusing because we can’t make sense of what we are seeing or experiencing)
- Intense panic, anxiety, burning, tingling or discomfort in any of the main chakra positions throughout the body
Yup, its pretty awful.
Why Do I Feel So Anxious During Spiritual Awakening?
So, before we get in to how to stop these awful feelings (I’ll be quick, I promise!) lets first understand exactly WHY spiritual awakening and anxiety tend to go hand in hand.
Anxiety throughout awakening is technically unavoidable, at least at some stages, but the degree to HOW MUCH anxiety or panic you feel, and HOW LONG you have to endure it, can be reduced drastically. Its unavoidable mainly because the process of awakening itself requires MASSIVE influxes of energy to charge our systems, open us up and allow healing to occur, and that energy can cause havoc while it reigns.
Why Does Awakening Cause Anxiety & Panic Attacks?
Awakening is all about purging. Its entire purpose is to purge and cleanse your soul of all the pain, trauma and negative belief systems that you have picked up throughout all of your lifetimes.
Its the process of getting you back to who you truly are as a divine spark of light (and divine sparks of light don’t shine too bright when they are hurt, hiding or limited). So, a process called ‘Kundalini rising’ begins. Energy is powerfully forced up through your central column (the line up your spine where all your main chakras are) in order to clear out all of the blocks that stop you from experiencing a pure connection to the divine and channeling that energy through you and out into the world around you.
Ascension Energy Can Make Us Feel AWFUL
The problem is that while that process of purging and clearing is essentially a greatly transformative thing for your souls ascension (we couldn’t reach enlightenment or fulfill our life purpose without it), it generally makes us feel awful for two key reasons:
- The powerful surge of energy will draw up current life and past life fear – whether you consciously know or remember what caused it or not and
- The powerful surge of energy naturally makes us feel anxious and panicked because it charges and over stimulates us. This often triggers a fight or flight response in the physical body because our bodies are not ready for such a high vibration. It causes our alarm senses to trigger as our bodies perceive this powerful energy as a threat and trigger our bodies to fight or take flight and run away.
How To STOP Spiritual Awakening Anxiety, Fear & Panic Attacks FAST
There’s good news and bad news – lets go with the bad news first. Not a lot actually works to stop or reduce awakening anxiety, fear and panic attacks, and many techniques (much of which are commonly recommended to us as suitable practice within the spiritual community) actually make the symptoms much worse.
The good news? There are 3 specific things that I’ve found that actually DO work and don’t have the negative repercussions that often occur with other methods. They are:
- Grounding
- Movement
- Energy Healing
Grounding
Grounding is the practice of being fully present and alert in our physical body. Its the process of connecting to our surroundings and keeping our focus on the physical reality (which is where we should be, but often as light workers, aren’t). Unfortunately due to the heightening nature of awakening, we often become ungrounded very quickly (this can last months or years) and perpetuates long term symptoms like anxiety, fear and nervousness that can make awakening unbearable.
Be careful though, traditional methods like using crystals, incense, oils or meditation will have the opposite effect, intensifying our symptoms and making anxiety, fear and panic attacks much worse. If you want to learn more about that, you can do so here.
In the meantime, my best recommendation for fast, and most importantly SAFE, symptom free grounding would be tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is safe, even for those going through spiritual emergency. Its deeply grounding, and as its derived from a plant, the connection to soil and mother nature will pull your roots to the ground pretty instantly. It also has the added benefit of clearing your energy if you’re feeling overwhelmed or needing cleansed.
I like to put a few drops in my hands and run them over my head and through my aura. Instant grounding. Plus, because its commonly used for health and beauty, you’ll likely find it in budget stores in the skin care or pharmaceutical sections – score!
Movement
One thing that almost always works for me is MOVEMENT. Exercise can shift energy pretty quickly and it often helps to disperse any blocks in our chakras or energy field, discharging the intense energy at the same time.
Try going to the gym or working out at home. Even a 15 minute walk can make a world of difference, whether you live in a scenic green area or not. Its actually the movement that makes the most difference. If you can however do it in the countryside or a green area then that’s an added bonus. Get moving and get that energy shifted for instant relief!
Energy Healing
My last tip on shifting anxiety, fear and panic attacks is energy healing (but there’s an important stipulation, so please keep reading). Energy healing will not only help you disperse the anxiety in the moment for instant relief, but it will also heal the issues that are causing the anxiety to arise in the first place, meaning that you’ll be less likely to experience future attacks.
I believe that energy healing is absolutely essential during awakening. I don’t know how I would have made it through without it. It was my go-to solution for any and all emotional intensity and it was such a relief to have a tool at my literal finger tips that could make me feel better within minutes.
A Word Of Caution
Its important to note that I do not recommend energy healing throughout awakening, because it generally over stimulates our already over charged energies and tends to cause us to feel even worse (it can even trigger a spiritual emergency or psychological breakdown). The only energy healing method that I would safely recommend during awakening is EFT Tapping.
Its a simple, self applied energy healing technique that will reduce anxiety, clear panic and calm your nervous system while actively healing the cause of the problem.
